Writing Homework
From this weeks homework, where you choose two compare and contrast topics of your choice, Do a simple plan outlining the structure of both topics.  One topic should use the point by point method while the other topic should be the block method.  Demonstrate you understand the structure.  I don't need full sentences.  Also provide your brainstorm for each topic.

October 28th

Hello grade 10's

This past week has been difficult and probably a little confusing when it comes to creating good thesis statements and introductory paragraphs.  You will be good at them by the time grade 10 is over to prepare you for grade 11.  Please don't be discouraged.

Homework for Monday.

Create an outline for your social studies essay.  Make sure to include 1-2 causes, at least 4 effects (2 positive and 2 negative)  Under each effect, have 2-3 notes to support the effect.  Bring your outline to class on Monday for an easy completion mark.

On Monday we are going to work on your thesis.  We will also look at how to organize your essay.

Have a great weekend!

October 25th

Do a Funnel Brainstorm for the following two questions.

1. Technology in the classrooms have slowly been introduced and used throughout many school systems.  Some feel that it is a burden and others feel it is a benefit.  Support your stance on technology in the classroom.

2. There is a large gap in income with respect to wages earned.  The middle class is becoming smaller which means the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.  The government is proposing to pay everyone the same wage and balance the work load for everyone.  Take a stance on this decision the government may make.

October 20th

Due Monday

Complete the LEAD worksheet.  On the back of the worksheet, create 2 new introduction paragraphs by following the prompts.

Introduction paragraph #1
As society progresses there seems to be more and more emphasis on when children should start school.  Some mothers feel they want their children to be at home longer to gain more love and build a better bond with family.  Other mothers feel the earlier children start school the better they will be at socializing.  In a well written introduction, state what you think.

Introduction #2
Teenagers brains are far more developed than teenagers from 20 years ago.  There is some debate on whether they should even attend school or not.  Some believe they are better off staying at home and school themselves.  In a well written introduction, state what you think.

Note:  Follow the rules of do's and don'ts of writing a thesis statement.  Also, include all the elements of a good introduction (Lead, Bridge, Thesis).

September 21st

Hello Everyone,

All homework will be posted on this blog.

For tomorrow, the writing journal and the hand out I gave you today is due.  Remember, on the hand out, where it says conclusion, make sure you are writing a second body paragraph.  Take a look at the introduction and read the first body paragraph to gain an understanding of what the next body should look like.

Note: Every body paragraph should have a Topic Sentence which comes from your supporting sentence in the introductory paragraph.

Another note:

Please stop speaking Chinese in class.  Class time is an opportunity for you to work on your English so take advantage!!  You graduate in a few years and it will become very important for you to use in the future, especially if you want to study abroad.  Thank you
